Many people are unaware that Holi in Kinnaur valley is celebrated with just as much vigor as anywhere else. However, the festivities of Holi in Kinnaur commence as a part of the Faguli festival in Sangla Valley.
Fagli or Faguli is a four-day festival and Holi is celebrated on the third day with snow and dry colors. On the first day, a dish made of roasted barley flour and buttermilk called Totu is prepared and distributed as prasad.
The Holi festivities in Sangla valley of Kinnaur consist of music, wine distribution, and a reenactment of a few scenes from the epic Ramayana. The most fascinating part is that the Faguli festival is celebrated by lighting oil lamps as is done during Diwali.
In a way, the Faguli festival is a blend of two of the most popular festivals i.e. Diwali and Holi making Sangla valley a must-visit during Holi in 2023. innaur, the land of demigods, isn’t what you think of when you think of Holi, and yet, it’s an experience you’ll never forget. And so the lands where Himalayas rise from till the mountains, where the sun rises from behind the Kinner Kailash, and sets with the golden light illuminating the snowclad peaks, where rivers boisterously flow through the dense cedar forests, where prayer flags fluttered in the cold winds, while the smoke emerges from the wooden cottages, Those lands await to welcome the explorer in you, as they open up their secrets to bestow upon you the knowledge and experiences that stay unexplored by many,
Kinnaur Holi is one of the most unique celebrations in India, and something everyone should witness at least once in their lifetime to be able to understand the true diversity of India.
Here Holi is more of a carnival, being celebrated over a course of 3-4 days, with each day offering a multitude of colorful visuals in a land that stays deserted during the long winters. As the Holi comes along with the colors of Spring.
So come along with us, and explore what’s been unseen, and be a part of the journey that’ll open up a new world for you.
