Overview

The Do Dham Yatra to Kedarnath and Badrinath is a revered spiritual journey in the Garhwal Himalayas, Uttarakhand, India, encompassing two of the four sacred Char Dham pilgrimage sites. Kedarnath, at 11,755 feet (3,583 meters), is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva, while Badrinath, at 10,279 feet (3,133 meters), is the abode of Lord Vishnu, enshrined in an ancient temple along the Alaknanda River. This pilgrimage offers devotees a chance to seek divine blessings amidst the majestic Himalayan landscape, characterized by snow-clad peaks, serene valleys, and sacred rivers. Spanning approximately 7 days and covering around 450-500 km (including road travel and trekking), the Do Dham Yatra starts and ends in Haridwar or Rishikesh. The trek to Kedarnath involves a challenging 19 km uphill journey, while Badrinath is accessible by road, making this yatra a blend of physical effort and spiritual fulfillment. Ideal for pilgrims of all ages with basic fitness (with options like ponies or helicopters for assistance), the Do Dham Yatra is a shorter yet profound alternative to the full Char Dham circuit, typically undertaken from May to October when the temples are open.
